Dam Ride

Sunday 27th May 2013.
Well Saturday had been such a cold windy day that I didn't think there was much hope of going for a ride on Sunday.  So I proceeded to  do some gardening, the plan to upgrade one section which had got very cluttered, and the bark has been overrun with moss.  I had previously, one by one. moved all the pots with my topiary trees and re-potted them which seems to need doing about once a year.  Scott arrived back about 11.30 having got a ring, and said lets go for a ride.  Woohoo

We head off in the direction of  Rotorua to meet them, they must have taken their time as we got right into town before we met them.

So now, where to go.  Headed off down the Atiamuri highway, the plan it seems was to get to the Ohakuri Dam, via the back roads.  Down Bryce Road, never been down this road before, lovely bendy flowing road with a few sharp corners. Twist Road, Whirinaki, Nicholson Road, Poutakaka Road, then onto to the metal of Gelatos and Maleme  Roads which brought us to the Ohakuri Dam.

Next we headed off past the  Atiamuri Dam, then along side the  Waikato River to the Whakamaru Dam.

Had lunch a a little café just past the dam.  A couple of guys there on their BMW and KLE had been on a weekend trip from Tauranga to Awakino taking the back roads.  About 20 other riders came in over the next half and hour or so, mostly riding BMW's

We also went over the Waipapa Dam and the Arapuni Dams.  While we didn't actually tour the dams we rode over or beside 5 dams on this local Sunday Road ride.  Bit of inspiration to get out and ride some of those roads that we just by pass all the time.

And after all those dam's, we missed two of them in betweem Managkino and Waipapa.  Dam
